A Collection of Signed and Dated Fine Porcelain Woolly Animals That Feel as Good as They Look

Colin’s Creatures are made of a unique combination of materials to create a very lifelike figure. The artist, J. Colin Richmond carves the original piece in parts and makes a mould of each part. The head, legs, and horns are cast in porcelain, for its detail. Because porcelain shrinks 14% in firing, these parts are made first. A castable stone gives the body its substantial feel and a woven fur of wool, mohair or alpaca covers the body for tactile appeal.

The collection is known for its sheep but includes a wide variety of other animals, from Highland Cattle and Piglets to Swans and Puffins. Each piece is handmade in the artists studio in Ross on Wye and is signed and dated by the artist. This is not a shopping cart because the artist balances his time between the UK and the US and is not always available to make a shipment or for a studio tour.
