Kempen Heath Baaing Ewe and Lamb

Colin's Creatures Handmade Easter Sheep, Kempen Heath Baaing Ewe and Lamb

There are studies of dog barks that have determined what each bark actually means. I would love for someone to study what each of the different 'baas' mean - I imagine it would be quite interesting! This Kempen Heath Ewe's head and legs are porcelain and her lamb is all porcelain. The ewe's cast stone body is covered with luxurious woven mohair and her lamb's fur is wool.

All my creatures are handcrafted in my Asheville, NC studio using porcelain, castable stone and imported woven fur from the Steiff company in Germany.

Breed Description

The Kempen Heath Sheep (Kempische Heideschaap) is a very rustic and self-sufficient breed, which thrives on poor heath vegetation and is used primarily for land management in the central Netherlands. Changes in agricultural methods in the 20th century almost led to the Kempen's extinction, but an organization was formed in 1967 to save them. In 2006, Slow Foods took the Kempen under its wing, creating a market for them and reviving interest in the breed.
