Kempen Heath Ewe Straddling Lamb

Colin's Creatures Mother's Day Sheep, Kempen Heath Ewe Straddling Lamb

How wonderful to feel so protected and safe - the lamb can probably even feel her mother's heart beat on her back. The ewe's head and legs are porcelain and the lamb is all porcelain. The ewe's caststone body is covered with woven mohair and the lamb's fur is wool.

All my creatures are handcrafted in my Asheville, NC studio using porcelain, castable stone and imported woven fur from the Steiff company in Germany.

Breed Description

The Kempen Heath Sheep (Kempische Heideschaap) is a very rustic and self-sufficient breed, which thrives on poor heath vegetation and is used primarily for land management in the central Netherlands. Changes in agricultural methods in the 20th century almost led to the Kempen's extinction, but an organization was formed in 1967 to save them. In 2006, Slow Foods took the Kempen under its wing, creating a market for them and reviving interest in the breed.
