Kempen Heath Lying Sheep

Colin's Creatures Handmade Life like sheep figures, Kempen Heath Lying Sheep

The Kempen Heath is one of my favorite breeds - I have such wonderful visual images of them grazing on the blooming heather creating a sea of white, purple and green. Enjoy this reclining sheep with a porcelain head and caststone body covered with luxurious woven mohair.

All my creatures are handcrafted in my Asheville, NC studio using porcelain, castable stone and imported woven fur from the Steiff company in Germany.

Breed Description
The Kempen Heath Sheep (Kempische Heideschaap) is a very rustic and self-sufficient breed, which thrives on poor heath vegetation and is used primarily for land management in the central Netherlands. Changes in agricultural methods in the 20th century almost led to the Kempen's extinction, but an organization was formed in 1967 to save them. In 2006, Slow Foods took the Kempen under its wing, creating a market for them and reviving interest in the breed.
