Lincoln Longwool Flock

Colin's Creatures Handmade Sheep figures for Christmas, Lincoln Longwool Flock

The Lincoln Longwool is one of the furriest sheep I create using mohair. They are creamy in color with a gray heathered nose peeking out from the shaggy curled fur. They have eyes, but you may not always see them under the mohair. They are a delight to touch and gently groom. Please note that the fur currently available to me and in the photo is slightly shorter than that in the thumbnail photo.

All my creatures are handcrafted in my Asheville, NC studio using porcelain, castable stone and imported woven fur from Steiff-Schulte in Germany.

Breed Description

The Lincoln Longwool (also known as simply the Lincoln) is an old English breed known for its beautiful fur. The fur lends such character to the carving, making it one of my favorite breeds. The Lincoln is the largest British sheep, developed specifically to produce the heaviest, longest and most lustrous fleece of any breed in the world. Great numbers were exported to many countries to improve the size and wool quality of their native breeds. The versatile fleece is in great demand for spinning, weaving and many other crafts. It is now one of Britain's rarer breeds, categorized as "at risk" by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust since there are fewer than 1500 registered breeding females in the United Kingdom. --info via Wikipedia
