Alpaca Standing with Cria

Alpaca Standing with Cria

When carving this sweet alpaca pair, I was inspired by the idea that the mother is imparting words of wisdom to her child. Perhaps they are simply gazing at one another with love, but whatever the story, these two are charming and clearly bonded. They are a wonderful gift for a mother-to-be or in a baby's room, or simply for an alpaca lover.

All my creatures are handcrafted in my Asheville, NC studio using porcelain, castable stone and imported woven fur from Steiff-Schulte in Germany.

Breed Description

An alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated species of South American camelid. It resembles a small llama in appearance. Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of southern Peru, northern Bolivia, Ecuador, and northern Chile at an altitude of 3,500 m (11,500 ft) to 5,000 m (16,000 ft) above sea level, throughout the year. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, they were not bred to be beasts of burden, but were bred specifically for their fiber. -- info via Wikipedia
