Breed Description

The Leicester Longwool was developed in 1700's England by Robert Bakewell, the first to utilize modern animal breeding techniques. His work later influenced Charles Darwin and Gregor Mendel. Word of his work also reached the colonies and was of great interest to George Washington. The Leicester Longwool is known for it's long curly fur. Such a fur is not available in a woven form, so my sheep are shown recently sheered. This breed can be seen at Colonial Williamsburg.
